At the Gallows

Pascal Bergamin

Summer 1633. After the execution of a deserter, the malicious chief asks the simple soldier Maximilian to watch over the gallows and the hanged, as plenty of witches are roaming the region who mutilate the corpses for their rituals. Though during the night watch Maximilian falls asleep – and the corpse disappears. A wild night follows: Maximilian flees the scene into the forest, where he meets a very attractive woman, who offers him wine and her charm. Soon he discovers that these hours are not only for life’s pleasures. Lust and pleasure get intermingled with haunting and nightmares. In the morning the confused Maximilian realizes that a corpse is hanging from the gallows again.
